Setting up to write scripts

What you need once you move to epScript or eudplib: Python, an editor, and where things live.

4 min read

While you are writing triggers, ScmDraft and TEP are enough. Once you move to epScript or eudplib, euddraft is what puts your code into the map, and from there you need a little more set up.

  • Python. eudplib is a Python library, so it runs on Python.
  • An editor with syntax highlighting - VS Code or Sublime will do. Not Notepad: finding one unbalanced brace in it costs a day.
  • euddraft, which collects the plugins and your script and applies them to the map.

The library sits under Data/eudplibdata inside the euddraft folder. When you want to know what a function really does, opening that is the fastest answer - and more accurate than any document.

If you use EUD Editor 3, run it as administrator the first time and point it at both your StarCraft executable and euddraft. There is a step that downloads graphics, and StarCraft has to be closed for it.
