Why a condition holding a variable needs Trigger is in an earlier lesson: a variable is a number field in an action, and moving that value over into a condition takes a few more triggers to do.
One of the examples writes into a table of equal-width values, like the supply costs. Instead of naming each address it adds index times stride to a base - and once you have seen that shape, every dat table looks like it.
