FileManager: the game's own words

Where weapon names, ranks and tooltips are changed - and why changing one changes all of them.

6 min read

The words inside StarCraft - weapon names, ranks, button tooltips - come from stat_txt.tbl, and FileManager is where that table is changed. Swapping one existing string for another just works; putting in words of your own needs FileManager enabled.

Write even one new string and the whole map uses your table from then on, ignoring the player's own language setting and their custom hotkeys. It works by building and substituting a whole new tbl - so changing one word can put someone who plays in English into Korean.

The colour codes differ here
<3>Yellow. Writing <03> as you would in ScmDraft does nothing - the leading zero has to go.
<20>Invisible - this is how you erase text.
<5>Grey - and unusually, it ignores every colour code after it.
<5>ABC<8>DEF → ABCDEF 가 전부 회색
The <8> after a <5> is ignored. The same is true in ScmDraft.

Wireframes are changed here too. EUD Editor 1's wireframe editing does not work on Remastered, so do this in 2 or later.
